The world is veiled in darkness. The wind stops, the sea is wild, and the earth begins to rot. The people wait, their only hope, a prophecy "When the world is in darkness Four Warriors will come" After a long journey, four young warriors arrive, each holding an ORB.

The first of the final fantasy series, released in 1987 in Japan and 1990 in the US. An entire world was packed in to a two megabite cartridge on the NES. Players were transported to a mystical land where the powers of the four elements were bound and controlled by four crystal orbs. Unfortunately the orbs were fading and an evil power was spreading across the land. Only the coming of the four heroes foretold (known as the light warriors) could save the world.
Although primitive by todays standards, at the time final fantasy was a revelation. The graphics were stunning, the music was incredible and it was awesome to play. A vast gaming world, hordes of spells, monsters, items, weapons, and armour combined with a richly detailed plot made it a big hit in Japan. Later, when it was released in America it enjoyed significant, if not incredible success.
Many elements from the first Final Fantasy made it through to the future FF releases. And a year later the sequel was released in Japan. Final Fantasy 1 Walkthrough
